Business by the Book is similar to AdMinistry® except it is specially designed for Kingdom-minded small business entrepreneurs.
We handle all the startup paperwork, set up your books, train you in the essentials you need to operate successfully and provide administrative coaching every step of your journey.
Business by the Book is a comprehensive cloud-based administrative solution for startups and other small to mid-sized businesses that reduces your administrative tasking to just an hour or two per week.
We offer federal income tax return preparation as well as tax returns for all states, municipalities and school districts. We also provide preparation services for a variety of payroll, non-profit/tax-exempt and limited small business needs. Clergy tax returns have been our specialty since 1987.
Our fees are extremely competitive, averaging 10%-20% less than those of the large national chains and 20-50% less than many CPA firms.
Because we serve clients throughout the US (and beyond!) it is impossible for us to personally meet with most of our clients. Therefore, we have prepared a comprehensive Tax Organizer to help our clients gather all the information and documents needed to accurately and quickly prepare a tax return. The package can be e-mailed, snail-mailed or faxed to us. How convenient is that?
Jerry is Enrolled Agent (EA). An EA is a tax professional who has passed a rigorous IRS test covering all aspects of taxation and passed an IRS background check. Successful candidates earn the privilege of practicing (that is, representing taxpayers) before the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can practice before. Jerry has more than 25 years of experience as a tax preparer and has prepared thousands of tax returns for hundreds of clients in dozens of states.

Jerry possesses a unique blend of pastoral and administrative abilities. He has more than forty years of ministry experience which includes planting and pastoring several churches. In fact, he's pastoring a local fellowship now! He also has extensive experience in non-profit administration having served in the senior administrative role in two of the largest churches in central Ohio.
Jerry has served on the boards of numerous churches, missions agencies, other ministries and for-profit businesses. During the more than 30 years he has led MCG he has consulted with hundreds of non-profit organizations throughout the United States and beyond and has assisted scores of church plants and other ministry start-ups.
Jerry’s wife, Jeanie, serves MCG part-time as Jerry’s Executive Assistant. She has many years of experience in the business and banking industries.
Jerry and Jeanie live in central Ohio. They are the parents of five and the grandparents of many awesome grandkids (19 at last count!). Jeanie is a home-decor genius and enjoys watching old movies and cozying up in front the fireplace. Jerry is into all sorts of outdoor activities like gardening, hiking, fishing, etc. He is also a history buff.
Timothy Stephens
Graphics / Web Development
Timothy is an experienced graphic designer and web developer who has been actively serving churches, ministries, non-profits and small businesses for years. His technical abilities and services include logo and illustrative design, website and application design and development, search engine marketing, business brand development and creative writing.
Tim currently lives in Delaware, OH with his wife, Courtney, and his three children.
When not working on client projects Tim enjoys writing and playing music, reading, and excellent sci-fi/fantasy movies.
Bob Buchan
Associate Director
Bob Buchan is a pastor, church planter, author, educator, and proven leader with many years of experience helping individuals and organizations. He is the author of First Love that Lasts and he created a helpful resource for individuals and groups called Following Jesus When You're Finding Work.
He received a B.A. from Otterbein University and was actively involved in CRU and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After college he enrolled in a program that combined graduate education in counseling psychology from both Georgia State University (M.Ed.) and The Psychological Studies Institute. The goal was to train counselors to work from a biblical worldview. Bob completed a second graduate degree in theology from International Seminary (M.Th.).
Bob served as a pastor for many years taking the lead to start 4 churches. His most recent church plant grew to over 900 weekly participants. In recent years, he served as the Marriage and Family pastor of Heritage Christian church, a congregation of several thousand members.
Bob has been married to his wife, Linda since 1979, and they've been blessed with five children.
Bob does extensive coaching work with pastors and other ministry leaders. Together with Linda, he does marriage counseling and is especially skilled at counseling ministry couples.
Rebeccah Dauber
Associate Director
Rebeccah has been around MCG as long as our founder has. Rebeccah is actually Jerry’s daughter, and MCG was founded on her tenth birthday! Rebeccah has been onboard since 2019 and serves as MCG’s payroll guru and also fills a variety of client support roles.
Rebeccah and Scott dwell in the outskirts of New Albany Ohio. They have three kids, two of whom are still at home. She’s an avid thrifter and sometime musician.
